After a few hours the newly uploaded model has the new 3d viewer in color. So that works.
But (very) old models still show the old monochrome java 3d player:

Can you give me a link, Stijn? As far as I'm aware the new viewer can render full color models as well.

Are they being/will they be updated?Just uploaded a new color model and it too shows the old 3d viewer.
Is this a fallback while rendering the new one?
